Mittagundi Outdoor Education Centre’s Approach to COVID-19 Safe Operations

Mittagundi will be taking the following approach to ensure the safety and welfare of participants (young people), staff, volunteers and visitors.

All staff, volunteers and visitors to Mittagundi must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Young people attending programs are not required to be vaccinated.

Mittagundi will follow advice of the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services and the Victorian Department of Education, to ensure that we continue to operate safely. In particular:

  • Mittagundi staff are trained in maintaining a COVID safe workplace, including: correct use of PPE, correct cleaning procedures and physical distancing requirements.

  • Mittagundi will conduct a thorough clean of all high touch surfaces in shared areas 3 times per day during program operations. Personal hygiene will be maintained by the use of hand wash facilities at all toilets, hand wash facilities at the main dining hall and the use of hand sanitiser where appropriate.

  • Our transport and activities ensure that adults and participants do not come with 1.5m of each other unnecessarily.

  • Mittagundi requires all participants and volunteers to undertake a Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test prior to leaving home on the morning of a Mittagundi program. If a positive result is returned please contact Mittagundi as you will not be able to attend the program.

  • In the case of a participant (who has not had COVID in the previous 12 weeks) who displays symptoms of COVID-19 the participant will be required to undertake a supervised Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test. If a negative test, the participant will be required to complete a Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test each day while symptoms exist. If a positive test is confirmed a participant will be removed from the program and need to be collected by their parent/guardian.

  • If a participant (who has not had COVID in the previous 12 weeks) tent partner or someone they share a cabin with has a positive Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test they will be managed as a close contact and subject to the regulations in place at the time of the program. This may mean that they will be removed from the program and need to be collected by their parent/guardian. All other participants will remain on the program and be required to do a supervised Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test each day for the remainder of the program.

COVID Safe Code of Conduct.

Mittagundi will ask participants, staff, volunteers and visitors to commit to abiding by our COVID safe code of conduct.

  • Pre-arrival: if a participant is feeling unwell with a fever or COVID-19 symptoms they are asked to not attend Mittagundi.

  • Should a participant arrive at the start of a program, and feel unwell with COVID-like symptoms, the guardian must discuss the best course of action with staff before departure from Albury Railway station.

  • When on the property participants must follow all Mittagundi staff instructions relating to COVID safe practices. These include: regular hand washing and hand sanitising, maintaining social distancing regulations, coughing and sneezing into elbow and avoiding touching of the nose and face.

  • It is mandatory to wear masks whilst travelling in Mittagundi vehicles and other enclosed spaces as required.
