6. 2024 Sangiovese
2024 Sangiovese
“Sangiovese shines when served just slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, which keeps its bright acidity and savoury notes lively. A large red wine glass allows its herbal aromatics and cherry notes to open beautifully. This is a wine made for the table, think tomato-based pasta, wood-fired pizza, grilled lamb or roasted vegetables. If the wine is young, a short decant (20–30 minutes) can help soften the tannins and bring the fruit forward.”
This wine captures the vibrant character of this classic Italian variety. Bright crimson in colour, the wine opens with aromas of cherry, red plum, strawberry and dried rose. The palate is light to medium-bodied with juicy acidity and fine tannins, revealing layers of red fruit, savoury herbs, spice and subtle earthy notes.
Dal Zotto Sangiovese 2024, grown in Victoria’s King Valley, is matured for eight months in French oak
(15% new, 85% seasoned) to enhance texture and depth.
Bright crimson in colour, it opens with lifted aromatics of cherry, red plum, strawberry, fig, and dried
roses, complemented by savoury hints of oregano and thyme.
The palate is light to medium-bodied yet structured, with mouth-watering acidity, supple tannins, and
layers of plum, cherry, tomato, leather, baking spice, and earthy truffle.
Approachable now yet cellar-worthy until 2031, it shines with hearty bean soup, beef ragu, pecorino, or
rich gnocchi in sage butter.
$320/12 case, $175/6 case (prices includes postage).
7. 2023 Montepulciano
2023 Montepulciano
“Montepulciano benefits from a little air to reveal its depth and richness. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes, especially with younger vintages. A generous red wine glass helps open up its dark fruit and savoury spice. This is a wine made for hearty meals — think slow-braised meats, lamb shoulder, rich ragù or roasted game.”
This Montepulciano is medium - full bodied red wine that tips towards higher levels tannins. The palate exhibits dark cherry, plum, brambly berry, blackcurrant and boysenberry notes. Secondary flavours like dried herbs, violets and nuance of lavender are nicely balanced with the acidity.
$300/ 12 case (price includes postage).
2023 Barbera
2023 Barbera
“‘Barbera is a wine naturally higher in acid than tannin. So, pairing this wine with something like a hearty Osso Bucco and polenta will see the wine deliver flavour that can’t be beaten! We love Barbera for its freshness & vibrancy. The nose exhibits plum and orange rind with spicy and savoury undertones. On the palate, expect plum & spices, backed up with savoury notes and a lengthy elegant acidic finish.’”
Barbera is one of the most versatile and joyful wines to drink. Serve slightly cool at 15–17°C to highlight its juicy fruit and natural acidity. It doesn’t usually need decanting, making it perfect for casual drinking or lively dinners. Barbera pairs effortlessly with charcuterie, pizza, grilled sausages, roast chicken or tomato-based dishes, where its bright acidity cuts through richness.
