A place for young people, built by young people

Welcome to Mittagundi, an outdoor education centre and working farm established with the belief that young people, mountains, purposeful work and challenges are natural partners.

Situated on a 520 acre property near the old gold mining town of Glen Valley, on the Upper Mitta Mitta River, north of Omeo, Mittagundi is a home away from home for more than 500 young people each year.

The main purpose of Mittagundi is to provide programs for young people (age 14 to 17) to explore Victoria’s high country and themselves. They spend time bush walking, camping, abseiling from nearby cliffs, rafting the Mitta Mitta River and helping to run a farm.

The atmosphere at Mittagundi is simple, honest and happy. There are no watches, no timetables and no devices. Instead there is an opportunity for young people to live and work together in an environment where people matter more than anything else.

OUR PROGRAMS

Mittagundi offers three styles of programs:

  • 10-DAY PROGRAM - this is our iconic program where individuals or small groups of friends come together with other young people, to form a group of up to 24, and embark on a journey of adventure and self discovery

  • FOLLOW UP PROGRAMS - after completing a 10-day or Winter Program young people often choose to return to Mittagundi on one of our shorter, theme based Follow Up Programs. These programs focus on contributing to Mittagundi, and being part of the Mittagundi community

  • WINTER PROGRAMS - during Winter large school or community groups of up to 20 young people per group come to Mittagundi for cross-country ski and farm experience programs

10 DAY PROGRAMS

Our signature 10 day programs see groups of up to 24 young people walk away from electricity and modern comforts, through the Victorian High Country and into the 520acre farm, that is Mittagundi.

They spend time working together on the farm, fencing, growing food, milking cows, working with wood, steel and wool. They embark on adventures rafting the Mitta Mitta River and abseiling off a local cliff face before walking back through the mountains and returning to civilisation.

This is THE perfect opportunity for young people aged 14 - 17 years old.

FOLLOW UP & WINTER PROGRAMS

Many young people who come on a Mittagundi course have such an amazing time that they are keen to come back and be involved again. Follow-up courses are about being part of the Mittagundi community and lend a hand, to experience more of Mittagundi and meet like-minded new and old friends. You can attend as many as you like if you’re aged between 14 - 17 years!

Follow-Ups are reserved for young people who want to return to Mittagundi after having already completed  a 10-day Program or a Winter Program.
